I hope you’re doing well? I’ve never actually used a lip kit before – I know Kylie lip kits are super popular but I just figured I’d get bored of the colour. That’s why I was tempted into purchasing the Revolution’s Lip Kit as it was only £6 which means if I get bored of the colour I won’t feel as though I’ve wasted my money.
Like usual I’ve broken my review into three parts; first impressions, using the product and overall opinion. Let’s get into this!
I picked this Matte Lip kit up in the shade Echelon for £6 in Superdrug. The kit comes with a lip liner and a liquid lipstick. In all honesty, I don’t think the shade range is particularly great there seems to be very brown nudes and then it jumps to a lot lighter shades. Another thing to add is to be extra certain when picking your colour; how it looks on the box is very different to the product inside and there weren’t testers available for all the shades. Besides from my problem with the colour range I was actually really excited to try out this product because I’m super in love with my Matte Liquid lipsticks from The Body Shop but I can only get them when I’m in town whereas I can pick the Revolution ones up from my local shopping centre. The packaging of the lipstick and the liner is basic, although I can’t say I particularly like the lipstick. The gold branding blends in and doesn’t stand out, there’s also no colour name other than a tiny sticker that is definitely going to peel off.
Using the product:
The linear goes on quite well, its creamy and had a good shape to it making it easy to apply. I did try and fill in all of my lips using this liner but that was a bad move because it was super dry and showed every single detail on my lips. The liquid lipstick itself well… lets just say that for me the formula isn’t quite there. Its drying, sticky and just not nice to work with. The applicator is the same as the other products I use but for some reason this one just didn’t work for me. The product did dry down to a perfect matte finish although that’s probably the only good thing I can say about this product. It dries so much that my lips feel disgusting! I couldn’t even bring myself to wear it out for the day, I took it off and reapplied my trusty Body Shop liquid lipstick instead.
I would use the lip linear again as I think that applied well and was easy to work with. But the lipstick. Hell no! This formula just doesn’t work for me, I don’t want to offend anyone who likes these but I think it’s awful! For £6 I’d rather get a Seventeen Mega Matte lipstick (£4.50) and a liner from Primark (£1) or even another Body Shop liquid lipstick. I’ll give the product a few more goes and if by some miracle this end up working out for me I’ll edit this blog post, but I seriously don’t see that happening.
Sorry this was quite a negative post but I feel that its important to tell you about the products I do like as well as the ones I don’t. Luckily I picked up a couple of other products from the drugstore too so will have reviews on them up soon too!
