I hope you’re doing well? I love seeing what other people have in their makeup collections and whilst I don’t have a ton, I thought that today I would share with you the lip products I have in my collection. I’ll tell you which ones are my favourite and give some quick pros and cons of the formulas.
Overview of my collection:
So instead of showing you guys everything I own I’ve decided to just include the lip products I have to hand daily as they’re the ones I usually go for. Surprisingly not they are basically all nude/berry tones as they are definitely my favourites to wear.
In my collection I have products from the brands; Kiko, ELF, Seventeen, Maybelline, Revolution, NYX and The Body Shop. I’ll talk in detail below about my top 3 favourites but before let’s talk about some of the ones I don’t love so much.
The Seventeen Mega Matte lipstick in the shade ‘Looking Buff’ is such an incredible colour. When I apply this I love it at first, the colour is incredible and its super matte. The down side is that it shows so much texture on my lips, doesn’t last long at all and it goes patchy. If your just wearing it for photos or for a short amount of time then it’s a nice proper matte product but for everyday use it’s just not the one.
I also have the KIKO lipstick which is another one that I just don’t particularly love. Unfortunately its because I got the wrong shade! I know totally my fault – well sort of… In London I found a cute nude shade tester that I liked and without checking I just picked up the boxed product behind it thinking it would be the same one. I was wrong. I wanted the shade 405 Vintage Rose which looked like a really pretty deep pink nude shade; instead I got 420 Light Rose Mauve. Which is a very light pink shade and just generally looks a bit to ‘Barbie’ like if you get what I mean. Although from the formula of the one I did get I wouldn’t repurchase it as the formula is quite thick and takes ages to dry down.
Top Three Products:
So I realise that I haven’t talked specifically about every single product I have but to keep it interesting I’ve just written about my least favourites and now I’m going into my top 3. These are all matte liquid lipsticks so if you’re looking for some great lip products to try out then just keep reading.
3. The Body Shop
I have 3 of The Body Shop Matte liquid lipsticks and I love every single one! The three shades I have are Crete Carnation, Nairobi Camellia and Tapei Orchid. My favourite is Nairobi Camellia but I use Crete Carnation the most. I can’t tell you how much I recommend these products. The formula is so smooth and not drying. It goes on well and isn’t streaky. Even the fricking smell is incredible. They’re just incredible. They’re sold for £6 which is a great drugstore price, you can usually pick these up with some sort of discount – I got them 3 for 2 which is why I have a few shades. I want to be 100% honest on my blog so I do think it’s important to mention that they don’t last more than 4 hours as I’ve found myself touching them up whilst on a shift at work. If needing to touch them up a few times a day isn’t a problem then you’ll most likely love these!
It was so hard to put this one in second because there are things I love and hate about this product. But seeing as I use it so regularly it seemed only fair for it to come in second. If you read my blog regularly you might remember me giving this Echelon Lip Kit a pretty negative review. Since first trying it and hating it I’ve grown to love it. Without the lip liner, I LOVE this liquid lipstick. The product is such a lovely opaque colour that just glides on. The applicator allows you to get a really crisp line which I love. It also dries down quickly and is very matte. The things I hate is that this one is super drying and shows a lot of texture like the Seventeen one. I love the colour and application that I just can’t let it go. Do you see my issue here?
1. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream
The NYX soft matte lip creams are a clear winner in my eyes. I have the shades Cannes and Rome (I love that they have place names) they are both perfect everyday colours and I think that’s one of the reasons I adore them so much. As the name suggests these feel so soft and smooth on the lips, they don’t apply streaky and I’ve never felt as though my lips are caked in product. I would say this last over 5 hours but of course some of the intensity is lost towards the end. The best thing about this formula is that I don’t find it at all drying on my lips and considering that they are matte shades they don’t dry in a way that shows a lot of texture. Rome is the latest addition to my collection and I’ve been wearing it constantly! For £6 I 100% recommend you giving these a go if you haven’t already.
