I hope you’re doing well? I’m fricking excited about this post. SophDoesNails is one of my favourite YouTubers, when I heard she was collaborating with Makeup Revolution to release two of her own palettes I nearly wet myself – out of excitement… If you’re not sure what this launch is then firstly I reccommend you check out SophDoesNails on YouTube and secondly it is one highlighter palette and one eyeshadow palette. On release day I added the eyeshadow palette to my basket without a second thought. It arrived today and I just can’t hold back my review so here it is! Let’s get into this!
(Some of my exposures are off in these photos as I was trying to make use of natural lighting where possible)
The boxing for this product is actually really cute. The pastel water colours and embossed gold features is adorable. As you can see this palette contains 24 eyeshadows (14 mattes and 10 shimmers) a fantastic amount for just £10! In comparison to the New-Trals Vs Neutrals and the Iconic Pro palettes from Makeup Revolution, Soph’s palette is slightly larger and a tiny bit thinner.
Hopefully the over exposure doesn’t make you cringe too much as you look at this. Anyway, above you can see the actual packaging used to encase the shadows. Similar to the concealer palettes from Makeup Revolution, Soph has chosen a matte, soft pink/cream packaging. I think this was a good choice because it makes the palette stand out from other Revolution packaging and even though it will get dirty any packaging will experience this over time. I’ve got to admit that I love the foil gold used on the ‘Soph X’ logo, so that’s a nice touch.
I couldn’t get my camera to focus on all the colour names on the film insert so I thought I’d write them out for you because the names are another very cute part of this palette (I’ve gone across the top row left to right and then down): Penguin, Pancakes, Fairy Lights, Pink Champagne, Iced Coffee, Cuppa Tea, Grow Old, Sparks Fly, Smokey Bronze, Mixed Berries, Tiramisu, Peaches, Cloudberry, Pumpkin, Pine Tree, Petrol, Pug, Danger, Strawberry Sweets, Festive Flame, Copper Coin, Mug Cake, Rosewood and Nightmare.
Now let’s get into some swatches!:
From the top two rows you can see that the shadows are fairly pigmented and mostly all warm toned. The only shade that I won’t be able to use on my skin tone is Pancakes but out of 24 colours that’s pretty incredible. If I’m being honest some of the very light shades swatched a little bit patchy but for less than 50p per shade I’m still very impressed by the quality. I’m most excited to play with the gorgeous shimmery purple shade ‘Mixed Berries’ and the pretty matte shade ‘Tiramisu’.
The bottom two rows definitely blew my mind a little bit. Before we get into that you’ve got to appreciate how well all of these 12 shades have swatched, there is so much pigmentation! It’s actually a little crazy how good these drugstore shadows are. Okay onto the mind blowing features. Firstly, LOOK AT ‘Petrol’! It’s iridescent and 100% fits it’s name – very excited to use this on my eyes. Secondly, the shade Cloudberries is a little bit of a dark horse. At first the shade seems very matte but when you swatch it you can see that it has little flecks of silver glitter which is so fricking pretty. Unfortunately this hasn’t shown up in my swatches so you’ll just have to believe me on that one.
Overall, I’m highly impressed with this product. From packaging, to shade range and on quality for me this guy is a real winner. Soph has done an amazing job with this palette and I can’t wait to play around with the shades. I think this actually works as an all year round palette which is pretty great because for such a cheap price that’ll make it even more of a worthwhile purchase.
