Hey Guys,
I hope you’re doing well? When I last went into Primark I decided to test out some of their beauty tools. I’ve had the makeup sponges before so decided to try an Oval Foundation Brush. I have been curious to test this style of brush for a while and seeing as it was only Β£2 in the sales it seemed like the perfect time. So let’s talk about this product!
The brush seems small in comparison to some of the bigger ones you see in other stores. Although the brush head is bigger than the Real Techniques buffing/expert face brush which are commonly used. Obviously this brush was stupidly cheap so the material doesn’t feel of great quality but it isn’t awful. The handle is a weak plastic which is surprisingly pretty flexible.
What I love about the design is that gripping the handle is super easy and doesn’t feel difficult to control. The bristles are surprisingly soft and although they are quite dense it actually feels like it’ll work well. But from first impressions I’m a little worried this might suck up a lot of my foundation and become quite thick.
I’ve used this to apply my MAC Studio Fix Fluid, Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless and Revlon Colour Stay (oil/combination). I’ve also tried a couple of different application methods. In terms of foundations it’s worked well with all the ones that I’ve tried, but they are all liquid formulas so I can’t say for cream/mousse. For me, the best application method is to apply the foundation to my face with my fingers and the blend it out with the brush. When I tried to apply it to the back of my hand and then pick it up on the brush to then blend it onto my face, the brush absorbed a lot of the product meaning I’d end up using a lot more. I feel that applying it with this brush gives the skin a natural/matte finish, which again I quite like.
Overall, the brush works well and I’ve been loving it so much that I’ve used it everyday since purchasing. This is a pretty great version of this style of brush and I would definitely be keen to try out a more highend version of this brush.
I love using an oval brush to apply foundation. I’m not a fan of the smaller oval brushes though π Great post
