I hope you’re doing well? Lockdown has been in place for sometime now and whilst the situation is certainly not ideal I’ve been trying to make the most of my new found free time. Since I know many of you will also be bored at home I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve been up to – maybe one of these things will be something new for you to try!
Something you guys might not know about me is that I’m quite interested in Space. I watch rocket launches and like to get a little nerdy with some space themed content. With that in mind I have been loving the YouTube show The Sky Above us hosted by James Albury. He explores space in a way that is accessible, his videos are relatively short making them easy to watch and James’ american accent makes learning about space almost relaxing. The team behind the videos are great and you can see a lot of effort has been put into creating this content. The channel is both entertaining and education – I highly recommend checking it how!
Something you probably do know about me is that I love Disney! In fact Haydn and I should have visited the park back at the start of April but unfortunately the trip was cancelled. However, I didn’t lose my Disney spirit but instead decided to share a Disney+ account with a few friends and have been enjoying watching the movies and old Disney Channel shows like Hannah Montana.
I want to keep this post relatively short but I know a lot of people like the streaming platform Netflix or Amazon Prime so here’s a quick rundown of the shows I’ve been watching on there:
- Gilmore Girls
- The Office (US)
- Modern Family
I’m not sure if I’ve every mentioned my love for Sims before on here but my God do I love that game! I have nearly 1000 hours in game for Sims 4 and don’t even want to know how many hours I have accumulated across the different generations of the game over the 13 years I’ve been playing. If you fancy living vicariously through a character or just playing God I highly recommend trying out the Sims 4. You can buy the game through Origin now for just £8.74. If you do get the game (or are already a player) you can follow me on The Gallery with the EA ID CharlieStar2000.
At the start of lockdown the highly anticipated game Animal Crossing New Horizons was released for the Nintendo Switch. I must have spent everyday for the first 3/4 weeks binging that for hours. I have over 150 hours on the game and it was a really fun play through. I’ve sort of achieved everything I wanted to on there now so haven’t played as much over the past couple of weeks but I still highly recommend this game. You don’t need to go to a store or order the game online you can buy it through the Nintendo eShop and play it that same day! The only downside is that the game is still £50 so is definitely on the pricey side – however most games for the Switch are around this mark.
I have a real hunger to learn and so the idea of doing nothing to improve my knowledge for the duration of lockdown definitely scares me. The truth is I’m a much better person when I have some sort of purpose.
I’ve been doing a lot of freelance client work which is really interesting and helps me earn a little money that is needed at the moment since I’m not able to work elsewhere.
The main thing I have been doing though is learning British Sign Language. The British Sign website have a really great Pay What You Can setup in place at the moment meaning this is accessible to everyone during the pandemic. As I student I paid just £3 and have honestly gotten so much value out of it! After just a few weeks I am able to sign a fair bit and can understand a lot. I recommend giving it a go if you are looking for something to keep your mind busy.
I hope you enjoyed this little overview of everything I’ve been up to. I am also making little changes to the CharlieStarBlogs website so claps to you if you spotted them. Stay safe and I hope to be out exploring again soon.
